Rhino rocks at Grand Opening
Slough's Trading Estate rocked out to the sounds of Status Quo bass guitarist John ‘Rhino' Edwards on Saturday 28 March to mark the Grand Opening of Thames Valley Harley-Davidson. Edwards played in new band Woodedz with sons Max and Freddie at the event, which was attended by almost 3,000 people.
The Yarmouth Road dealership kicked off the celebrations with Southampton-based cover band Burn. Customers also enjoyed the 2009 range of Harley-Davidson® and Buell® motorcycles on display, and demo rides were fully booked - 85 were completed on the day.
Lord Charles Brocket made a special appearance to collect a customised Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic motorcycle that will take him 9,500 miles through Europe and the Middle East. Starting in France on 19 April, the trip will raise money for CLIC Sargent, which provides care and support for children and young people with cancer.
Food and drink sales during the Grand Opening were also donated to the charity. The dealership's American Diner was open all day, and those not riding were able to take advantage of a fully licensed bar.
A huge Genuine Parts, Accessories and MotorClothes® sale created much interest, with many items being sold at below cost price. The family fun was complete with the Harley-Davidson dodgems.
"Our Grand Opening was a huge success," says Thames Valley Harley-Davidson Dealer Principal Neil Jeffery. "After a few early showers, customers came flooding in to the showroom. And luckily, we decided to increase the size of the marquee, because it was full all day!
"We were happy to assist Harley-Davidson UK in its support of Lord Brocket's charitable ride. We were also delighted that so many people could join in the celebrations at our new purpose-built showroom for such a worthy cause."

The refreshed styling of the Harley-Davidson® FLSTC Heritage Softail® Classic highlights the seven-model Harley-Davidson Softail® line-up for 2009. No single line of motorcycles offers more diversity in styling and attitude – from the retro darkness of the Cross Bones™ bobber to the iconic, broad-shouldered Fat Boy® and radical Rocker™. The Softail family represents the fully realised custom vision of Harley-Davidson, a combination of rolling art and engineering excellence that is often copied but never matched in the world of motorcycle design.
Named for its rear-suspension design, which mimics the lines of a vintage hardtail frame but offers the comfort of modern suspension that is hidden under the transmission, every Softail has clean lines, a low seat height and a rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B™ powertrain. The rigid powertrain allows tight packaging of the engine and frame and creates a solid connection between the rider and the beating V-Twin engine that moves the motorcycle, enhancing the emotional experience of riding.
Each Softail model also features 6-speed Cruise Drive™ transmission for outstanding mid-range torque and relaxed engine speed when cruising, as well as a sophisticated active intake and exhaust system. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) enhances engine efficiency, provides crisp throttle response and easy starting, and self-adjusts for changing environmental conditions to maintain performance. A classic “horseshoe” oil tank located below the seat, forward foot controls or footboards, the classic Fat Bob® fuel tank, and the perfect execution of custom detail in paint and metal are design elements that define each Softail model.
